Obtaining Child Support

Child support issues arise in a variety of situations. If you are going through a divorce and you have children, child support and custody issues will be central to your divorce settlement. A parent who is not married can also obtain child support by establishing paternity through the courts.

If you are a custodial parent who has is not receiving child support, we can help you obtain it for the first time.

Enforcing Support Orders and Modifying Your Child Support

Our attorneys also assist clients with child support enforcement actions and modifications. If you have an existing child support order but the non-custodial parent has not paid support, we can help you enforce the child support payments through the legal system.

If you have fallen behind on payments, nonpayment of child support is extremely serious. Don’t stop paying child support without going back to court. If you have had a substantial change in circumstance (lost your job, suffered a serious medical problem, etc.) and can no longer make your child support payments, you must obtain a modification to your support order approved by the court. If you are in arrears in your payments, you could face significant penalties.
